Back to Basics is a beautiful book, full of gorgeous recipes, floral arrangements, and cocktails. It is one of the reasons I prefer owning cookbooks over any other type of book. The photographs are full of color, texture, and inspiration to be a damn good cook.
Ina loves to cook with everything "good" and frankly, at times it can be a little depressing. On a 25 year old's budget, it is not often that I can cook with the best ingredients. Not a big deal however- most of Ina's recipes can be substituted with not-so great- substitutes and they still come out amazing. (example- don't have fresh, organic strawberries for a pie? They have to get boiled down? Frozen works just fine..just don't tell Ina!)
Last weekend I attempted her Lemon Curd Tart.
Turned out pretty good. More to come!
